The Seward Arts Council/Seward Mural Society is requesting proposals for artwork and design of 2 small murals, commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Alaska Territory Purchase.

Overview of Projects
2017 is the 150th anniversary of the purchase of the Alaska Territory, these mural projects will be part of the celebrations and events commemorating it throughout the state. With William H. Seward as U. S. Secretary of State, and our town's namesake, these artworks are part of our tribute.

* Seward area artists will have first preference in the RFP
process, and if need be, statewide solicitation.

Theme and Size
A theme can can be illustrated in many ways. The size of the projects will be 4 x 8 feet each. One of the murals, will be mounted at the entrance of the Seward Chamber of Commerce, and the other mural’s location to be announced.

For each mural, we will be accepting color sketches and renderings of design, and finalists picked from the entrees.
A selection committee of 5-7 persons will select the final designs.
These murals will be painted independently from the Seward Mural Society.

Each Master Artist chosen will be paid $1000 for design and execution of project, payable on completion of mural.

  • To scale color designs May 15, 2017
  • Finalists chosen May 20, 2017
  • Finished 4 x 8 mural due August 1, 2017

The mural board substrate costs $60 for the 4 x 8 sheet and is available through the SMS. It is a coated aluminum board, which will need to be sanded and primed before painting.
When finished the mural needs to be protectively coated with
2-part clear coat by the artist.
